Bio: ELWarren (SPOON) Weatherspoon has served as a professional drummer, songwriter and musical director for more than 30 years. Spoon grew up in the music industry in Chicago under the influence of his father, Fletcher Weatherspoon Jr; founder and first manager of the legendary Doo Whop Group the Flamingos, known for the classic hit, I Only Have Eyes for You. He began his career at the age of 10 studying at the Chicago Conservatory of Music and was introduced by his father to the music business at a young age, working with such artists as the Chi-lites, Tyrone Davis, Otis Clay and veteran rhythm and blues musicians. His first recording experience occurred at Staple Studios, in Chicago owned and operated by the famous Staple Singers.

Although, Spoon is most notable for his hard driving, R & B funky pocket grooves; he has also earned a considerable amount of recognition in the Blues and Jazz arena. Inspired by drummers, such as, Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown), Jabo Starks(James Brown), Buddy Rich and Steve Ferrone(AWB).

Spoon has toured the world frequently in Europe, Asia and extensively in the United States. He is known for his accomplishments previously with Hall & Oates, LTD, Santana, Tracy Chapman, and countless others; to include, East Coast blues recording artists Memphis Gold and the late Bobby Parker. A member for many years and still with the distinguished legendary 70’s R&B Group HEATWAVE best known for the hits: Always and Forever, Boogie Nights, Groove Line and Mind Blowing Decisions.

Heatwave’s most notable accomplishments are: (4) Grammy nominations; (5) Gold singles; (3) Gold, (2) Platinum and (2) Double Platinum albums; and their 2013 nomination for the R&B Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Currently he is still touring with Heatwave, and such performers as the Emotions, Peaches and Herb, Jean Carne, and The Jones Girls. He created in 1995 the “Unit Band” which was known as the backing band with various nationally known recording artists, as well as 2010 R&B project “FRAMEWERK” that has released too date (3) cd recordings of their own and touring with acts like The Barkays, Confunk Shun, Peabo Bryson, Denise Williams, War, and Mother’s Finest too name a few. Most recently in 2015 the WE ARE ONE TRIBUTE X-PERIENCE BAND that honors Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. This has turned out to be one of the most respected Tribute Bands in the Nation.

One of his most memorable moments occurred when he teamed up with Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mack to conduct drum clinics across the country, showcasing the many styles of R&B, Blues, Rock and Funk drumming styles.

Spoon has scored musical productions for National Geographic and The Discovery Channel as well as performed many national “jingle” commercial spots.

Spoon serves as Vice President on Dove Productions, Executive Board, in Chicago, IL with his three brothers; the production company was founded by his father in 1973.
